About Nikko Tan

Nikko is the third generation in his family’s martial artist lineage. He combines traditional practices with modern wellness approaches for the Body and the Mind. Since 2015, he has been conducting Buddhist-based meditation classes and is a dedicated student of the Dhamma and meditation.

For the Body:

Nikko integrates a variety of disciplines into his classes to promote holistic self-care:

  • Exercise and Strength Conditioning: Drawing on his knowledge of biomechanics and fitness training, he emphasises the importance of functional movement and injury prevention.
  • Nutrition: He incorporates nutritional guidance to enhance physical vitality and support recovery.
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): He uses acupressure points and techniques to manage pain and promote energy flow.
  • Traditional Martial Arts: His lineage-based martial arts practices emphasise discipline, mindfulness, and body-mind connection.
  • Postural Awareness and Ergonomics: Drawing on his studies, he teaches practical strategies for maintaining body alignment and preventing strain in daily activities.

For the Mind:

Nikko specialises in mental resilience and emotional wellness:

  • Buddhist Psychotherapy and Counselling: He offers tools for managing stress, anxiety, and emotional vulnerabilities, emphasising defence against emotional attacks.
  • Applied Dhamma: He bridges ancient wisdom with modern challenges, teaching students how to apply Buddhist principles daily.
  • Meditation Techniques: Skills-based methods, such as “Mind at Home” mindfulness techniques, are used to become conscious of the unconscious processes. These basic techniques are tailored to suit both beginners and advanced practitioners in modern times.

Bridging Body and Mind:

Nikko’s approach reflects his holistic training, integrating physical wellness with mental clarity. He creates a balanced and transformative experience for his students by addressing both aspects simultaneously.

Guidance Toward Understanding Reality:

Individuals are guided toward a glimpse of understanding reality through a harmonious balance of Samatha Meditation (tranquillity) and Vipassana Meditation (insight). The practitioner gently uncovers the path to greater freedom and inner peace by embracing Samatha’s stillness and Vipassana’s clarity. This balanced approach nurtures a profound connection between mindfulness and insight, fostering a deeper understanding of the self and the nature of reality.
